Smith & Wesson's 2026 M&P15 Competition Refresh

Smith & Wesson's Competition-series rifles have always been the sensible middle ground: better than a Sport II, cheaper than a Daniel Defense. The 2026 refresh doubles down on that positioning with a mid-length gas system, a lightweight M-LOK handguard that shaves nearly half a pound, and a two-stage flat-face trigger straight out of Performance Center.
The new upper receiver ships with a taller Picatinny rail — a small change that finally lets you co-witness a red dot with backup irons without stacking risers. It's the kind of quality-of-life update that costs the factory pennies and saves the shooter an afternoon of parts-bin sourcing.
MSRP sits at $1,299, and PSA and Guns.com are already listing early inventory in the $1,050-$1,150 range. For a factory rifle that's genuinely match-ready out of the box, that's one of the better values in the segment this year.
